Actions Speak Louder....
Do It Change It Live It – a New Programme encouraging young people to act.
Recent speeches over the Christmas and New Year by community and faith leaders have once again thrown the spotlight on community cohesion – particularly focusing on positive engagement with young people.
“Do It Change It Live It” is an exciting programme of opportunity for young people across North Yorkshire in 2012. This innovative project is part of National Citizen Service (NCS), a government initiative programme providing young people in Year 11 living in York and North Yorkshire, from all backgrounds, with the opportunity to take on challenges, learn new skills, have fun with new friends and make a positive impact on their community over the summer.
We are currently recruiting hundreds of participants who will have the opportunity
to work with trained mentors developing their leadership, confidence, teamwork and
communication skills. Along the way participants will have a host of new and challenging
experiences, create new friendships and have the chance to deliver a social action
project of their choice
This programme is being run on behalf of NCS by Your Consortium
Ltd - a not for profit company based in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire - and is
working in partnership with North Yorkshire Youth (NYY), a registered charity who
support young people and the voluntary and community youth sector across North Yorkshire,
and also own and run Carlton Lodge Outdoor Centre, near Thirsk.
Sue Vasey – the Chief
Executive of Your Consortium said “We know that there is so much potential in young
people and we are passionate about providing opportunities for them to use their
energy, enthusiasm and skills to make a difference in our communities. The onus
is on all of us to support our young people and I’m calling on local businesses –
large and small – alongside voluntary & Community Sectors to help us make ‘Do It
Change It Live It ‘happen. We need some really practical support so please get in
touch and help us. We all need to invest in our workforce of the future and take
responsibility for the young people in our community and National Citizen Service
is a great opportunity to unlock so much potential.”
