Improving Mental Health One Plant at a Time

Friends of St Nicholas Fields – known by most as St Nicks – has been working with two York based mental health support units, encouraging those who attend to get involved in gardening.  The programme has proven to be very successful and participants have been involved in the planning and practical work, improving the environment and developing natural spaces on site.
This work is funded by the Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust and managed by Your Consortium.   The aim of this programme is to stimulate innovative projects in York and Selby districts that support individuals experiencing issues related to mental health and learning disabilities. Projects should support recovery from health-related conditions, strengthen support networks and increase social and emotional well being.
We visited them over the summer and have recently uploaded a short video about the great work they’ve been undertaking.
